Did the AI Bubble Just Pop?

When you went to bed last night, you probably didn’t think DeepSeek would be the buzzword of the day. But it became that as word spread of this new AI model from a Chinese startup company that its creators say outperformed OpenAI’s ChatGPT and at a fraction of the cost to develop. To get back to my hedge fund friend, I think we do need to be skeptical about stories out of China. It doesn’t negate the fact that there are amazing companies in China, but it’s just true. We’ve seen misinformation from China before, and we’ll see it again. So, first things first, we don’t know yet if these performance and cost claims about DeepSeek are 100 percent accurate or not.

Finding the Winners as the AI Race Heats Up Again

Artificial intelligence isn’t all scary. There are some amazingly good possibilities to think about, from improving our productivity to speeding up the cure for cancer and other diseases. I’ve talked a lot about that already here in Power Trends, and that won’t change in the new year. Especially as we see AI all over the headlines this week with President Trump announcing an up to $500 billion private sector AI infrastructure investment in a joint venture called Stargate – even that sounds very futuristic. Open AI, Softbank (SFTBY), and Oracle (ORCL) will team up over the next four years to build data centers in the United States, starting in Texas and eventually expanding to other states. For AI to reach its true potential, we need tons more computing power... not to mention power itself.

Power Rankings: Energy ETFs Dominate the Start of 2025

The top-performing sector of 2025 may be a bit of a surprise. Energy has the energy right now, as the sector has jumped 7.65% to start the year. (That’s more than 500% annualized!)
